The Bossa Duo
is a jazz guitar/piano duo consisting of Darrel Blackwell and Gregory Hall. We do many jazz and pop tunes classic and modern, but we specialize in the elegant “Bossa Nova” style: tunes by Jobim, Bonfa, etc. We are based in Wells and Alfred, Maine, and cover the southern coastal area of Maine. We both have extensive experience playing throughout the South Coast region; performing at venues, concerts, nursing homes, etc. Gregory Hall is currently pianist at the Oak St. Bistro in Alfred, ME, and is organist/music director at the Wells Congregational Church, Wells, ME. Darrell Blackwell has performed and taught guitar throughout the region, and in Portland, ME, at the Portland conservatory.

The Bossa Duo has performed several times at the Oak Street Bistro in Alfred, ME.

Darrell Blackwell
has been a guitarist for 40 years. He studied classical guitar for 12 years, has taught beginner and intermediate guitar for 20 years, taught children the Suzuki Method for Guitar, and is currently studying jazz guitar. He is also working with several local guitarists in a quartet guitar ensemble.

Composer/Improviser Gregory Hall holds degrees from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and the Curtis Institute of Music. He has played/improvised in many styles, and worn many hats (from church musician to band keyboardist to published/recorded classical composer). In the last 10 years he has developed a process of playing he calls “compositional improvisation”, which allows classical musicians to improvise through sight-reading, and which has greatly influenced his own style of playing, adding a contemporary classical touch to his pop and jazz improvisations.
