Film Music

Compositional improvisation updates the traditional discipline of silent-film accompaniment, adding an angle of contemporary classical music to live improvised film accompaniment.  Such accompaniment is becoming popular (https://acmusic.org/attend/concerts/sound-silent-film-festival) both with older silents and new silents.

An example of my compositional improvisations accompanying a silent film:



The melodies of Maurice Ravel are particularly appropriate for this film, as the sensibility of sophistication disguised as innocence is present in both Melies and Ravel–after all, they were contemporaries.
